Male Breast Reduction

Male breast reduction, technically known as a gynaecomastia procedure, is on the rise as more men seek treatment for this condition.

Mr Horlock will first indentify the cause of the gynaecomastia; true gynaecomastia is where the breast tissue, which all men have, develops and this can be common in young men triggered by hormonal inbalances in puberty. For most this subsides by their late teens but for some men, due to oversensitivity of the breast gland to different medications or hormone problems, this can be a real problem.

Pseudogynaecomastia is an excess of soft fatty tissue on the chest area that gives the appearance of male breasts and this is usually due to excess weight. Some men may have lost this weight but have been left with stretched skin on the chest area.

Depending on the cause of the gynaecomastia, Mr Horlock will be able to advise you on the best procedure. Pseudogynaecomastia can be treated with liposuction alone. If the skin has been very stretched you may need to have the excess skin and fat removed before it is stitched.

True-gynaecomastia requires a surgical procedure. Mr Horlock makes an incision at the base of the areola to hide the scarring and the glandular tissue is removed. He may perform some liposuction at the same time to get the best results.

Both procedures are performed under general anaesthetic and there are a number of possible complications that will be discussed in full at the consultation before you decide to embark on surgery.
For men who are suffering from gynaecomastia, there are solutions available to correct this condition.
