The ageing process can affect the face in various different ways and a facelift aims to reverse a number of these. It can remove excess skin, tighten up underlying tissue and muscles and replace fat in areas where there has been loss of volume.

Face lift scars can vary from short scar variants to traditional scars. There are also less invasive types of facelift, such as a MACS procedure, or the more invasive types such as the deep plane variants.

A facelift can be combined with eyelid surgery, a neck lift or liposuction to get the best results possible and Mr Horlock is skilled in assessing patients and being able to prescribe a treatment plan based on what they wish to achieve.

The facelift procedure continues to evolve and there are a number of techniques that can be employed, depending on the patient’s wishes and physical requirements. Incisions are usually made in front and behind the ear and may extend into the scalp. A facelift involves lifting and tightening muscles and tissue layers and then the excess skin is removed. In this manner, you reverse the effects of gravity on the skin, muscles and soft tissues of the face.

As with all surgical operations performed under a general anaesthetic, there are a number of possible complications and Mr Horlock will explain them in full at the consultation.

For most patients that are interested in turning back the clock on facial ageing a facelift could be the answer.
